SEO and Flash

I've recently been taking some evening classes in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). I thought it was time I really got my head around this important subject that digital and web designers often ignore, or have an 'It's not my area of expertise' attitude towards. So far it's been a massive eye-opener and far more interesting than I had imagined. OK, I admit it, I'm a Geek...
However, I rapidly came to the realisation that having a Flash only animated website was not doing me any favours with my search engine results. I suspected this already, hence having two separate sites for a while, but having to maintain both sites at the same time was proving too time consuming! So I decided to point flashlightdesign.net to this version of the site.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't gone all anti-flash-websites, I think for micro-sites or promotional sites Flash animation is an excellent way of presenting digital information in an exciting and engaging way. But when you have a large amount and depth of content on one site and you want the search engines to be kind to you then it's probably best avoiding a full flash site.
